I use some stuff called *Brite and very fine (0000) steel wool. I wear gloves to protect my hands from the wool.
I have so much copper and brass in my kitchen. It takes a good two days to get it all clean! LOL!
Peace and Blessings

Put a good layer of ketchup on it and let it sit for a day or two. Works great.

Salt and vinegar or salt and lemon juice.

Lemon juice is probably best IMHO, but beware, cleaning antique brass destroys the value of it. Most buyers want the "patina" on it, and the blackening greatly enhances the value. If you clean it, it may drop the value anywhere from 50% to 80% of what it would be worth as is.
